MWS Wire / Value Added Services / Cutting & Straightening

The Exact Wire For Your Next Step

The right size and length, ready for assembly. Our cutting and straightening services prepare wire for efficient downstream assembly, fabrication, forming, welding, or other secondary operations.

Using specialized straightening and cutting equipment, we process wire into individual discrete lengths with controlled straightness and tight length tolerances. The result is consistent, ready-to-use material that reduces handling, minimizes preparation time, and helps your team achieve repeatable results from one batch to the next.

Cutting and straightening is typically available for wire in 13 gauge (0.072 in.) and finer. If you require another wire size, material, temper, coating, or finish, contact us to discuss your requirements.

VAS Wire is Assembly-Ready

Cutting and Straitening are part of MWS Wire's Value Added Services - a suite of processes and technical capabilities that support your wire needs from development through production. Whether it's custom spooling, ablation, discreet lengths, or lab reports, MWS can prepare your wire to be assembly-ready for your downstream processes.

Wire Prepared for Production

Buying wire in coils or on spools can be economical, but it may require additional straightening, measuring, cutting, and end preparation before it is ready for use. Cut-and-straightened wire removes those steps by delivering material in the condition your next operation requires.

Whether you need wire for component assembly, medical devices, fabricated parts, electrical applications, aerospace, or custom manufacturing processes, we can help supply wire to your specified length and straightness requirements.

Advantages of cutting and straightening services

Correct Length for the next process

Receive wire cut to the length your operation requires, helping reduce in-house measuring and cutting.

Clean cut ends

Properly cut wire ends reduces the need for additional end preparation and can make insertion, forming, joining and assembly easier.

Controlled straightness

Straightening helps minimize curvature and coil set so the wire feeds, aligns, and performs more consistently.

Repeatable specifications

Length and straightness are controlled to your specific requirements, supporting consistent results across production runs.

Less material handling

Pre-cut lengths can simplify workstations, reduce setup time, and help operators focus on value-added production steps.

Cutting vs. Laser Ablation for discrete lengths

Cutting and laser ablation can both produce discrete lengths to prepare wire for a specific application.

Choose laser ablation when you need discrete length functionality but prefer to keep the material on a spool for feeding, organization, or automated processing. Laser ablation can create precisely located notches or separation points so that wire segments can be easily detached at the correct length. This option is especially useful when the wire also requires stripped ends: the material can remain spooled while providing a sequence of correctly sized, end-stripped sections that are ready to separate when needed.  For more information on laser ablation, visit our laser ablation page.

Built to Your Specification

Every application has different requirements. We work with you to define the characteristics that matter to your process, including:

  • Wire material, diameter, temper, coating, and finish
  • Required cut length and length tolerance
  • Straightness requirements
  • End-condition expectations
  • Packaging and quantity requirements
  • Compatibility with assembly, feeding, forming, stripping, or other secondary operations

The goal is simple: deliver wire that arrives ready for your next step, not wire that creates another step.
